2017 Minimum Wage Increases

Twenty-one states, including New York and California, ring in the new year with an increase in the minimum wage. Massachusetts and Washington state will have the highest new minimum wages in the country, at $11 per hour.

The largest increase comes in Arizona, where the minimum wage increases by 25% percent, from $8.95 to $10 per hour. Other significant increases come in Maine, where the wage will increase $1.50, to $9 per hour, in Washington state it will increase $1.47 to $10.50 per hour, Hawaii, where it will increase $1.25 to $9.25 and Massachusetts where it will increase $1 to $11 per hour.

Several other states have laws tying the minimum wage to the rate of inflation, generally leading to increases of about 5 cents per hour.

  • Alaska, the minimum wage increases from $9.75 to $9.80.
  • Arizona, the minimum wage increases from $8.05 to $10.
  • Arkansas, the minimum wage increases from $8 to $8.50.

  • Colorado, the minimum wage increases from $8.31 to $9.30.
  • Connecticut, the minimum wage increases from $9.60 to $10.10.
  • Florida, the minimum wage increases from $8.05 to $8.10.
  • Hawaii, the minimum wage increases from $8.50 to $9.25.
  • Maine, the minimum wage increases from $7.50 to $9.
  • Maryland, the minimum wage increases from $8.75 to $9.25.
  • Massachusetts, the minimum wage increases from $10 to $11.
  • Michigan, the minimum wage increases from $8.50 to $8.90.
  • Missouri, the minimum wage increases from $7.65 to $7.70.
  • Montana, the minimum wage increases from $8.05 to $8.15.
  • New Jersey, the minimum wage increases from $8.38 to $8.44.
  • New York, the minimum wage increases from $9 to $9.70.
  • Ohio, the minimum wage increases from $8.10 to $8.15.
  • Oregon, the minimum wage increases from $9.75 to $10.25.
  • South Dakota, the minimum wage increases from $8.55 to $8.65.
