Recruiting: Back to Basics, 3 Things You Can Do Today to Improve Hiring at Your Company

When you purchase a new applicant tracking system it’s more than a software investment, it’s a chance for a fresh start. To take a clunky or outdated system, or process that you were using and replace it with something that is efficient and that helps rather than hinders your recruitment efforts.

The Candidate View

Job applicants from all walks of life, every career level have experienced roadblocks when it comes to applying for a position. In 2019 and beyond, it’s time to stop making it difficult for people to apply. Stop requiring all candidates to jump through hoops to see if they are of interest to you. When was the last time you did an application yourself on your company website? Was it easy? Was it quick? or was it cumbersome, confusing and difficult to navigate? Get ready to re-do your employment application.

The Job Specific Apply Process

Depending on the types of roles that you need to recruit you may want to consider changing things up a bit. Someone applying or showing interest in a senior role such as a CFO or an IT Manager may not have the time available to invest in completing a long formal application. It may make sense for you to add a new application that keeps things much shorter for potential candidates in higher tier roles. Or an application that asks a set of specific role-based questions.

Candidate Communications

I’ve said this often, but don’t let your applicant tracking system become a data repository. Don’t be a resume black hole. Communicate with candidates often. From the acknowledgement email that gets sent immediately after submitting an application, to subsequent follow up messages. Communicate regularly, don’t leave candidates in the dark. 5 Example Emails To Send to Candidates.
