Recruiting News Roundup #FridayReads

Happy Friday! Take a look at the latest recruiting news that popped on our newsfeed this week:

The 9 Defining Characteristics of the CV of the Future (Read @ Recruiter.com)
If you were to ask me today to leave the house, go to a store, rent a video, go home, watch it, and then go back to the store and return it, I would think you were living in another century. I wouldn’t even remember that was exactly how I used to do it myself not that long ago.

End of Year Recommended Tasks (iRecruit Blog)
It’s that time of year again! December is upon us, we have one major holiday behind us, and a few more to go! At the end of each year it is recommended that you tidy up your candidate and requisition data to get ready for the new year. Having worked with thousands of administrators, recruiters and hiring managers for years, we have put together a simple list of suggested to-dos to get you ready for 2019!

Where Candidates Are on Social Media (Read @ ERE)
Candidates are more than ever using social media as a place to receive information about jobs (such as posts of job offers on Facebook), and say that having just a corporate Facebook or Instagram page is not enough. Posting the right content on the right channel is what candidates expect nowadays and gives you the competitive advantage.

WOTC Questions: Can a non profit participate? (Read @ WOTC Blog)
CMS Says: Yes, but in a more limited scope. Nonprofits are only eligible under the Qualified Veteran category. According to the IRS: Qualified tax-exempt organizations described in IRC Section 501(c) and exempt from taxation under IRC Section 501(a), may claim the credit for qualified veterans who begin work on or after December 31, 2014, and before January 1, 2020.

the weird world of interviewing teenagers (Ask a Manager Podcast)
The approach that you use when you’re hiring adults doesn’t always work when you’re talking to teenagers who may have never worked a job before. For this week’s episode of the Ask a Manager podcast, I talked about hiring teenagers with the co-owner of summer camp who has interviewed tons of teens for jobs as camp counselors … and it is FASCINATING.

Job Seekers Leave Mom and Pop in the Cold this Fall (Read @ ZipRecruiter)
Sometimes even the highest expectations are exceeded. The job market did just that in October, adding 250,000 jobs and showing 3.1% year-over-year wage growth, which is the most wages have increased since the recession. The quit rate, which measures the number of people voluntarily leaving their job to find a different (presumably better) one, is the highest it’s been since February 2001, meaning it’s not just the unemployed who are finding new jobs, but also folks who were already gainfully employed are taking the opportunity to level-up in their career.

A Google director who runs a team of 150 people says she doesn’t hire ‘rock stars,’ but there are 3 qualities she looks for instead (Read @ Business Insider)
The term is popping up in more and more job descriptions, but one Googler is not at all interested in hiring “rock stars.” Lilian Rincon, director of product management for the Google Assistant program, has grown her immediate team from four to nearly 20 people since she started at the company about two years ago.

Are You a Strategic Recruiter? A Quick Assessment Checklist (Read @ ERE)
Can you think of a more universal goal among corporate recruiters than to be recognized as a strategic recruiter? Where being classified as strategic means having a longer-term impact on corporate strategic business goals by going beyond simply meeting your monthly recruiting targets? Although there’s nothing wrong with being a tactical recruiter, being recognized as a strategic recruiter means that you have excelled as a professional and that you are making a significantly larger contribution to your team and firm.
